Devotional book belonging to Marie de Medicis, in miniscule script with eighteen large and ten small miniatures, many with elaborate borders in Arabesque and naturalistic motifs. Books of Hours, centered on adoration of the Blessed Virgin Mary, were especially popular from the mid-thirteenth through the early-sixteenth century. During that period, more Books of Hours than Bibles were produced in Western Europe.
Gift: Roscoe H. Hupper (Class of 1907) in memory of Felix Arnold Burton (Class of 1907).
