{"id":1062,"date":"2013-09-02T00:01:40","date_gmt":"2013-09-02T04:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/library.bowdoin.edu\/arch\/civil-war-blog\/?p=1062"},"modified":"2025-05-13T13:28:19","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T13:28:19","slug":"september-2-1863","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sca.bowdoin.edu\/civil-war-blog\/2013\/09\/02\/september-2-1863\/","title":{"rendered":"September 2, 1863"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Headquarters Eleventh Corps, Army of the Potomac.<\/p>\n<p>My dear mother:<\/p>\n<p>The day I wrote you from Washington (last Saturday) at half past seven in the evening we reached Catlett\u2019s Station \u2026I found my horses all looking well after their long rest.\u00a0 Yesterday Otis reviewed one of the\u00a0 Brigades and today another.\u00a0 He has just returned from the Review.\u00a0 I have been at home as my presence was not required and have been listening to music both from Piano and melodeon by a Capt of General Schurz\u2019s staff.\u00a0 Monday Otis with manual assistance from me and an occasional help of memory or other suggestion, made out his report of the battle of Gettysburg.\u00a0 I was writing from early in the morning until late in the evening, but finished it all up in one day, 37 pages on paper like this.\u00a0 I am writing in my tent which is shared by Capt.
