{"id":686,"date":"2013-03-12T09:00:25","date_gmt":"2013-03-12T14:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/library.bowdoin.edu\/arch\/civil-war-blog\/?p=686"},"modified":"2025-05-19T15:48:06","modified_gmt":"2025-05-19T15:48:06","slug":"march-12-1863","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sca.bowdoin.edu\/civil-war-blog\/2013\/03\/12\/march-12-1863\/","title":{"rendered":"March 12, 1863"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>This has been an idle week, thus far.\u00a0 The first of the week we were ordered to pack up all extra clothing, keeping in the knapsacks only great coats, blankets &amp; one pair stockings.\u00a0 We boxed up the rest of the men\u2019s clothing &amp; stored it, with the officers\u2019 baggage at the Brigade Commissary\u2019s.\u00a0 Drew shelter tents, one for every two men, one piece to be carried in each knapsack.\u00a0 We have been waiting orders to march, probably toward Port Hudson.\u00a0 The hospitals have been cleared to a considerable extent, by sending a large number of the patients to New Orleans.\u00a0 Day before yesterday (March 10th) Lt. R. started for N.O. with the following men of the Co. who were thought by our surgeons fit candidates for the change: O. Booker, Alb. Brown, S. S. Buzzell, Ellis, Ham, F. Holbrook, C. H. Huston, C. E. &amp; D. Skillin, Badger, Baker &amp; Turner.\u00a0 Turner met with an accident by the careless handling of a pistol.\u00a0 It went off &amp; the ball passed through his leg below the knee.\u00a0 He will not probably be confined very long.\u00a0\u00a0 Besides these, Varney, G. F. Davis, &amp; J. M. Wing were sent to N.O. from the Gen. Hospital, making fifteen from Co. H that have gone there, besides Lt.\u00a0 R.\u00a0 A few will have to be left in camp when the troops march\u2014probably fifty or more from the Reg. who are too weak to carry the load required but am not quite sick enough to go to the hospital.\u00a0 The Adjutant is to be left in care of the camp during our absence.\u00a0 We are ordered (&amp; have been for two days past) to keep two days rations cooked, &amp; in the haversacks.\u00a0 Have been writing a letter to Pamelia informing her that we are under \u201cmarching order,\u201d &amp; shall keep it open till we are ordered to fall in.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archivesspace.bowdoin.edu\/repositories\/2\/resources\/1540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diary of Isaac Winslow Case [Miscellaneous Manuscripts Collection]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thursday.
