As the demographics of the student body have diversified, so have the editorial board and writers of the Orient. As we commemorate 50 years of coeducation at Bowdoin, we can look to the masthead of the paper as a reflection of the change the College has seen in the past 150 years. Today, the newspaper describes itself, “Editorially independent of the College and its administrators, the Orient pursues such content freely and thoroughly, following professional journalistic standards in writing and reporting. The Orient is committed to serving as an open forum for thoughtful and diverse discussion and debate on issues of interest to the College community.”
