In 1955, Roscoe H. Hupper (Class of 1907) presented Bowdoin College with a unique copy of John James Audubon’s double-elephant folio The Birds of America in memory of his mother, Mary Alden Hupper (1854-1944). Since January 2016, Special Collections & Archives has invited the public into the reading room to observe the page-turning of this monumental work. Special guests, ranging from ornithologists and historians to poets and botanists, help interpret the book and the life and legacy of Audubon.
